The following timeline is only a small piece of the BCVRS history to show where EMS in Buckingham started and the leaps and bounds it has made since then.

1970

Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad is formed and begins to provide EMS coverage to Buckingham County with volunteer members.

1974

The Maxey family donates land on Glenmore Rd for a building for the Glenmore Unit of BCVRS

2004

The new Station 1 is built in Dillwyn and paid for through generous donations and fundraising.

1970's

First Buckingham Rescue Squad building is built

2000's

UVA Medic 5 begins providing supplemental EMS coverage which is then picked up by DRT.

Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad provided EMS care to the county for nearly 50 years. Unfortunately volunteerism nationwide drastically decreased, and with the COVID 19 pandemic, volunteer numbers fell to a low that could not keep up with the need for EMS in Buckingham. We will never be able to thank those who came before us and served the citizens of Buckingham so well.

Dec 2020

Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services starts staffing a 12-hour ambulance.

Sept 2023

BCDES takes a historic step and places RSI protocols, IV pumps, and ventilators in service.

Feb 2025

BCDES starts 24/7 staffing at Station 3.
